Attention all Ryanair passengers! The budget airline has just announced that they will allow larger carry-on bags for free. As of Thursday, September 4th, all passengers may bring a personal bag measuring 40 x 30 x 20 cm, which is 33% bigger than the standard EU allowance of 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
Ryanair has installed larger bag sizers in all 235 of their airports across Europe. This means that every passenger can now bring one free carry-on bag that can fit under their seat. However, if passengers wish to bring an additional carry-on bag, they can purchase Ryanair’s priority boarding service.
Dara Brady, Ryanair’s CMO, stated: “As of today (Thursday, September 4th), Ryanair’s new free carry-on bag is now 33% larger than the EU standard. Our bag sizers in all airports have been ‘re-adjusted’ to accommodate this larger allowance. Passengers who wish to bring a second bag on board can do so by purchasing our priority boarding service, and they can also opt to purchase checked baggage during the booking process. We hope our customers appreciate the larger and free carry-on bag, but any passenger who does not comply with these generous limits will be required to pay the checked baggage fee at the boarding gate.”
This change in policy not only benefits Ryanair passengers, but also reflects a larger trend in the travel industry. Airlines are constantly looking for ways to improve the flying experience for their customers, and providing a more generous carry-on allowance is just one way to do so. This may also encourage other airlines to follow suit, making it easier for travelers to bring more of their belongings on board without incurring additional fees.
