The second edition of FUORISERIE, presented by CNA – the National Confederation of Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises and curated by Sapiens Design Studio and Stefano Lodesani Studio, explored the theme of tangible ā€“ intangible during Milan Design Week 2024. Held at Superstudio PiĆ¹, the event showcased select design pieces physically and through augmented reality technology, blurring the line between material and immaterial.

Highlighting artisanal excellence, FUORISERIE featured companies like Goti Arredamenti, presenting Minerva, a sculptural throne, and Domenico Cugliari’s immersive installation, Souvenirs de Voyage. Pollini Home exhibited innovative stoneware products, while Liber Vittorio Venturini showcased designs inspired by recycled materials.

Augmented reality technology was used by Nestart, Opesclamativo, Euromarmistore, Marco Ripa, and Tremolada to present their creations. Notable highlights included Nestart’s FOOI armchair, Opesclamativo’s Forato washbasin, and Marco Ripa’s Coimbra collection.

FUORISERIE tangible ā€“ intangible demonstrated the fusion of tradition and innovation in artisanal craftsmanship, offering a glimpse into the evolving landscape of design.

Back to Our Roots

UNNO Gallery, Origen Ā© Alejandro Ramirez Orozco

UNNO Gallery returned to Milano Design Week 2024 with Origen, a collective
exhibition showcasing the artworks of Latin American artists and designers; Mark
Grattan, Estudio Persona, Habitacion 116, and Andrea Vargas Dieppa. Each artist had their own unique style and yet expressed their culture and a common narrative of Latin American cosmogonies: order created nature which created matter which created mankind from that very chaos. Unique pieces made of traditionally crafted wood and modern uses of metal and glass gave dynamic forms and textures, offering a unique and immersive experience of the space.

Origen went beyond a simple furniture exhibition and transcended into a true celebration of cultural richness and expression.

Venturing into the Surreal

David Lynch’s “Interiors by David Lynch: A Thinking Room” stole the show, offering a captivating immersion into Lynchian dreamscapes. This innovative installation, part of Salone’s cultural program, sparked intriguing conversations about the psychology of space with its sparse rooms and thought-provoking imagery.

Embracing Sustainability

The commitment to sustainability remained a focal point. AMIDA’s futuristic digitrend watch blended timeless elegance with eco-consciousness, while Mosslab’s desktop humidifier and purifier provided a delightful solution for dry air. Whod Design’s “Debris” stacking game showcased the fun and functionality of recycled ocean plastic.

Cultural Fusion

Global influences took center stage. A preview of Junya Ishigami’s ethereal designs for Maniera Gallery exemplified Japanese minimalism, while Maruni seamlessly integrated Japanese craftsmanship with modern utility. Gunjan Gupta’s “Indian Tiny Megastore” celebrated India’s design heritage, adding a rich cultural tapestry to the event.

Beyond A Trade Fair

Salone del Mobile transcended its traditional boundaries and the confines of the fairgrounds Fiera Milano, extending its reach to Fuori Salone events and exhibitions across Milan. These gatherings, including platforms for independent design in historical villas, provided inspiring settings for emerging talents to shine.

Milan Design Week 2024 wasn’t just about shopping for furniture; it was a reflection on how design shapes our lives. From introspective installations to sustainable innovations and global collaborations, it offered a glimpse into a future of thoughtful, beautiful, and ever-evolving design.
