LVMH Backs Restoration of A Historic Fountain in Milan

A beloved landmark in Milan’s city center is about to sparkle once again. The City Council has approved a generous donation from LVMH Profumi e Cosmetici Italia for the design and restoration of the Fontana del Verziere, one of Milan’s most iconic historic fountains.

The fountain, designed by Giuseppe Piermarini in 1782, has stood for nearly 250 years as both an artistic treasure and a gathering place. Over time, however, it has suffered the effects of weather, water, and pollution, leaving visible signs of deterioration. The last maintenance intervention dates back to 2012–2013.

Thanks to the new restoration plan, valued at €87,800, the fountain will undergo a complete conservation project. Of this amount, €68,865 will cover restoration work, while the remainder will be allocated to design, construction management, and administrative fees. The Municipal Fountains and Monuments Unit and the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage will supervise the process to ensure both authenticity and sustainability.

“This donation will allow one of the symbols of our city’s history to be restored to its original beauty,” said Gaia Romani, Councilor for Neighborhoods and Participation. “The Fontana del Verziere is more than a monument—it represents education, inclusion, and the bond between Milan’s past and its future.”

A Cultural and Fashion Icon

The fountain, located in Piazza Fontana adjacent to the Duomo, is not only a piece of monumental heritage but also a favorite backdrop for fashion shoots and cultural events. Its renewal will enrich the area’s charm, benefiting both residents and visitors strolling the historical center’s stylish boutiques, galleries, and cafés.

This initiative is part of LVMH’s ongoing support of Milan’s cultural landscape. The group was also behind the dazzling Christmas tree installation in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II during the recent holiday season, strengthening its role as a partner in the city’s civic and cultural life.

A Landmark Preserved for the Future

The upcoming project will focus on cleaning, restoring, and protecting the fountain’s historic stonework, while implementing modern technology to improve maintenance and sustainability. For fashion lovers, travelers, and Milanese alike, the restored Fontana del Verziere will soon stand as a renewed symbol of elegance, history, and community spirit.

Next time you find yourself wandering through the city center of Milan, keep an eye out for the beautifully renewed fountain—a perfect reminder of how Milan honors its past while embracing its future.

Beyond cultural patronage, LVMH is widely recognized for its portfolio of luxury maisons, which include fashion powerhouses such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi, and Givenchy, as well as beauty labels like Sephora and Guerlain. The group’s influence also extends into the hospitality world with Cheval Blanc hotels in destinations such as Courchevel, St. Tropez, Paris, and the Maldives, along with the legendary Belmond collection of heritage hotels and trains, including Hotel Cipriani in Venice and Villa San Michele in Florence.
