Photofestival 15th: an opportunity to start again
“Scenarios, horizons, challenges. The changing world. “
Milan, 7 September – 15 November 2020
An opportunity to start again
After the “suspended” time of these months of emergency, Photofestival, the Milanese photography exhibition, is getting ready to bring the culture of the image back to life. 140 exhibitions scheduled, with a schedule spread throughout the city, in the hinterland and in some Lombard provinces.
An unprecedented autumn stage is the one ready to welcome   the fifteenth edition of Photofestival , the photography exhibition that traditionally animates the Milanese cultural spring: after the decision to postpone the event from 7 September to 15 November 2020 due to the coronavirus emergency, this edition has an important meaning, because it represents an opportunity for the city and its cultural lifeblood to restart .
The title of the review – ” Scenarios, horizons, challenges. The changing world . ” – is unpredictably the great theme of this historical moment so unique and extraordinary, which has left an indelible mark in our lives, changing approaches and perceptions.
In recent months the organization of Photofestival, under the artistic direction of Roberto Mutti, has made efforts to offer a proposal that lives up to expectations, despite the many organizational and financial difficulties associated with this complex period, and thanks to the collective work carried out with operators, gallery owners and authors, who believed in the project, it is now able to announce an excellent program, in terms of numbers and quality of the proposals.
There are 140 photographic exhibitions scheduled in over two months of programming, inserted in a capillary circuit that embraces the entire Metropolitan City of Milan , up to touch some Lombardy provinces: Lecco, Monza, Pavia and Varese .
The exhibition spaces of the festival include the official areas of art galleries, museums, libraries and municipal offices , but also non-institutional spaces such as shops and showrooms . The cornerstone of the circuit is – once again – Photofestival’s “Palazzo della Fotografia”, Palazzo Castiglioni di Confcommercio Milano, which will host some of the program’s exhibitions.
In the name of inclusiveness, as usual, also the exhibition program of the event, which ranges between personal and collective of renowned authors and emerging talents .
Alongside the exhibitions, there is a program of events and involvement activities with meetings, presentations, portfolio readings and workshops designed to speak to the new generations, as well as photography enthusiasts.
The paper catalog of the event which, distributed for free in all the exhibition spaces of the circuit and in some tourist and cultural places in Milan, represents an important tool for the dissemination of photographic culture.
New this year is the map of the places of Photofestival , to find your way around the city in search of exhibitions. The guide will be available in the final pages of the printed catalog, divided by areas, and will also be available in a web version from the milanophotofestival.it website : a new service to encourage the use of content, facilitating itineraries and planning photographic itineraries.
Promoted by AIF – Italian Photo & Digital Imaging Association, the 2020 edition of Photofestival is created in collaboration with Confcommercio Milano , is desired and supported by the individual companies associated with AIF , in addition to making use of the support of the Cariplo Foundation and of the Sponsors Giuliani and the Group. Cimbali , and is sponsored by the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region .
