AriAnteo Open-Air Screening Premiere | August 2 – September 18, 2025

Leonardo’s Horse, the anime dedicated to the genius

PREVIEW IN THE ARIANTEO 2025 SCREENINGS FROM SATURDAY 2 AUGUST

The new poetic animated short film celebrates the deep bond between Leonardo da Vinci and the city of Milan.

Milan’s deep connection to the legacy of Leonardo da Vinci is coming to life—literally—on screen. As part of the “Milan and Leonardo” project, funded by the Ministry of Tourism and produced in collaboration with Milano & Partners and the City of Milan, a new animated short film will premiere this summer in open-air cinemas across the city.

“Leonardo’s Horse”, a poetic anime-style short film, celebrates the timeless impact of Leonardo da Vinci and his enduring bond with the city of Milan. The film’s narrative blends Japanese animation artistry with Renaissance inspiration. It imagines a magical night in Milan when Leonardo’s monumental bronze horse—the seven-meter equestrian statue—springs to life and begins an extraordinary journey through the streets and landmarks shaped by Leonardo himself. From the Sforza Castle to the ancient Navigli canals, the horse travels through time, place, and memory, embodying the power of creativity to transcend boundaries.

This original film is part of Milan’s wider celebration of Leonardo, including the city’s cultural campaign “Leonardo is Everywhere” and the international presentation of pages from the Codex Atlanticus at Expo Osaka 2025.

The film was created by a team of international talent including director Fruit Hu, production companies Passion Pictures and Future Power Station, and creative direction by Lorenzo Crespi and Veronica Ciceri. With stunning 2D and 3D animation and a rich original score, it’s an imaginative tribute to both the master and the city that inspired him.

Where to Watch:
The anime will screen during the AriAnteo 2025 open-air cinema program from August 2 to September 18, at venues including:

  • Palazzo Reale
  • Incoronata
  • Piazza dei Mercanti
  • Fabbrica del Vapore
  • CityLife

Later in the season, the film will also be presented at key historical locations throughout the city—places Leonardo once walked, worked, and dreamed.

Whether you’re a film lover, an art enthusiast, or simply looking for a meaningful way to enjoy Milan on a summer evening, this short film is not to be missed.
