If you’re interested in trying their hand at climbing or looking for some tips on technique, there is an exciting opportunity coming up in Lombardy. The highly anticipated free climbing events with the Alpine Guides of Lombardy will take place from September 27 to October 19 in various locations throughout the region.

If you want to learn how to climb, don’t miss the 8 days of Falesia with the Alpine Guides of Lombardy (September 27 to October 19)

This series of events is not meant to be a single course divided into 8 lessons, as each event is unique and aims to provide a first approach to the activity. Each session will be led by Alpine Guides and Guides in training, who will be available to assist beginners or those with little experience. They will offer an overview of climbing techniques, including motor skills and belaying techniques, and demonstrate proper equipment usage. It’s a great opportunity for people to get a taste of this activity in its natural environment and decide if they want to pursue a full climbing course with a Guide in the future.

Free events open to adults and children

This initiative is part of the promotional activities organized by the Regional Alpine Guides College and the Lombardy Region. These free events are open to both adults and children, with the goal of introducing beginners and enthusiasts to the mountains and promoting responsible use of natural spaces.

Federica Picchi, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth of the Lombardy Region, says, “These free climbing days are an extraordinary opportunity to introduce young people and families to the mountains in a safe and conscious way.” She also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the Region and the Alpine Guides in promoting sports and sustainable tourism, as well as spreading a culture of respect and responsible use of natural spaces.

Fabrizio Pina, president of the Regional Alpine Guides College of Lombardy, adds, “The climbing days are always a great success, a sign that this sport has become mainstream and is no longer niche.” He also stresses the importance of transitioning from indoor climbing gyms to outdoor rock climbing, which comes with its own set of risks and challenges. These events aim to educate participants about the proper approach to climbing in its natural environment.

The 8 days of climbing will take place in different provinces of Lombardy on weekends from September to October.

October 5: Campo dei Fiori (VA)
October 11: Galbiate (LC)
October 12: Introbio (LC)
October 18: Sassella (SO)
October 19: Casazza (BG)

Registrations

All days are completely free, registration is done directly on the Alpine Guides website where you can also find all the information https://guidealpine.lombardia.it/

Registration will close once the maximum number of participants has been reached, or in any case on the Thursday before the excursion. Given the high demand for these initiatives each year, and given that each event is necessarily open to a limited number of participants, those registering are asked to arrive or cancel as early as possible to allow others to register and ensure the best possible organization by the many professionals involved in the initiative.

This year, all participants will be able to collect a free Lombardy Region accessory at the start of each excursion.
