Applications Are Open: Artist Residency Program at Hotel Belmar Costa Rica

A Creative Retreat in Costa Rica’s Cloud Forest

An Invitation for Artists to Explore, Create, and Connect in Monteverde

This March, Hotel Belmar in Monteverde, Costa Rica, invites artists from around the world to participate in its celebrated Artist Residency Program. Against the backdrop of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from the landscape, local culture, and ecological environment.

Held four times a year, the residency offers room and board, with potential stipends available for applicants who demonstrate financial need. Open to artists working in any medium, the program is designed to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas while promoting sustainable and cultural awareness.

A Residency Designed for Creativity and Engagement

Since 2019, the residency has been an inspiring space for creative professionals, bringing together artists, hotel guests, and the local community. Initiated by Pedro Belmar, Managing Director of Hotel Belmar, in collaboration with Costa Rican artist and curator Martha Palacio, the program reflects the hotel’s dedication to thoughtful tourism and cultural dialogue.

“Artists are encouraged to share their process through open studio hours, workshops, and exhibitions,” explains Belmar. These interactions cultivate meaningful conversations and offer both guests and locals the chance to engage with creative work in progress.

Past participants have included internationally recognized names such as Emilia Olsen, Damian Siqueiros, and Patrick Neal, as well as Costa Rican talent like painter Fabian Monge and the Wimblu art collective. The program thrives on this blend of global and local perspectives, making each residency a distinctive experience.

Creative Inspiration in Every Detail

Hotel Belmar and its surrounding environment provide more than just a workspace—they offer experiences that feed the artistic process. Artists can join guided explorations of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, learn about regenerative farming practices at Finca Madre Tierra, and participate in morning yoga. Every moment is thoughtfully curated to inspire creativity and reflection.

How to Apply

Applications for the March 2025 Artist Residency Program are open until February 6th, 2025. Artists from Costa Rica and abroad are encouraged to apply.
