In the 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings, three Italian universities have secured positions among the top 150 globally, underscoring Italy’s commitment to academic excellence.
Leading the Italian institutions, the Politecnico di Milano achieved its highest-ever ranking, placing 111th worldwide. This marks a significant rise of 12 positions from the previous year, reflecting the university’s dedication to enhancing its global standing. The Politecnico di Milano’s advancement is attributed to improvements in academic reputation, employer reputation, and sustainability initiatives.
Following closely, La Sapienza University in Rome secured the 132nd spot, while the University of Bologna, also known as Alma Mater Studiorum, ranked 133rd. Both institutions have consistently been recognized for their contributions to research and education, maintaining their status among the world’s leading universities.
The QS World University Rankings 2025 evaluated over 1,500 universities across 105 higher education systems, considering factors such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, international faculty, international students, and research citations per faculty.
These rankings highlight the enduring strength and global competitiveness of Italian higher education institutions, reflecting their ongoing efforts to foster academic excellence and innovation.
